About

Made the hard way,
every day.

Calyer opened in 2019 on Myrtle Ave in Clinton Hill, started by husband-and-wife team Peter Chrostowski and Marta Bis. The idea was simple: build the neighborhood spot they'd always wanted for themselves. The name came easy. Peter grew up on Calyer Street in Greenpoint, and naming the cafe after it was like building a second home.

What "the hard way" means.

Made from scratch.

Proteins, sauces, pickles, and roasted vegetables are all made in house, not shipped in. No sandwich is assembled until you ask for it.

Sourced on purpose.

Bread and pastries come from Balthazar and Native, two of the best bakeries in the city.

Roasted locally.

Our coffee is roasted by Partners Coffee Roasters and pulled fresh all day.

Coffee

Coffee gets treated seriously here.

Beans come from Partners Coffee Roasters, roasted locally, with separate blends dialed in for espresso, cold brew, and drip, since one bean can't do all three well.

We steep our own cold brew in house instead of pouring from a bag of concentrate, and we use quality matcha and teas. Every shot runs through a La Marzocco Strava, weighed and dialed in on grind and extraction so it's consistent shot to shot.

Roaster Partners Coffee Roasters
Espresso machine La Marzocco Strava
Milk Battenkill Valley, plus alt milks
Syrups Holy Kakow, organic
Calyer drip coffee in a kraft-sleeved cup next to an espresso Cold brew poured over milk and ice

Clinton Hill is home.

Peter and Marta still run Calyer together, and it's since grown into a second spot: Diamond Slice, a pizzeria in Greenpoint. You'll find us at 519 Myrtle Ave, or on most of the delivery apps.
